The following OP appeared in another forum I am a member of:

QuoteOh dear, at the cafeteria at college today it stank like shite. Me and my mates were in there and some downie was screaming "MOAAARHIDEOIHFOEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWEWEWEWEWEMOOOOOONSMYYYMOOONS!". She pood her pants hahahaha

I've never felt so bad about bursting into laughter.

The author is known for trying to shock.

In the discussion that followed the consensus seems to be that he had the right to post it because the OP wasn't directed at anyone in particular.

Some members said they were deeply offended and hurt because they had disabled loved ones, but others said they had no right to be becasue it was not directed at them personally.

How do you feel about this? - I would especially like to hear what would happen here if a regular member posted such an OP.

curiosityandthecat

A regular member here wouldn't post that. Anybody who would post that wouldn't make it as a regular member here.

Plus, I'd GIF the shit out of them.

It's very obvious (to me) that the person posted it just to get a reaction out of people.  If he had felt bad about laughing (assuming this really happened and he didn't just make up the whole situation) he would have posted in a very different tone.  Someone like that would be considered a troll here.

QuoteOh dear, at the cafeteria at college today

They apparently won't be there long at least the college part, I can't say about the cafeteria part.

Quote...it stank like shite. Me and my mates...

This person is possibly English or Australian apparently.

Quote...were in there and some downie was screaming "MOAAARHIDEOIHFOEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWEWEWEWEWEMOOOOOONSMYYYMOOONS!". She pood her pants hahahaha

At least they show that they should feel bad about gaining amusement from someone's disability - one they cannot control since they cannot control the fact they have trisomy 21.

Were it my board, he could post it but then he'd have to be prepared to be ridiculed for his complete lack of sensitivity and idiocy.

So far I have been labelled as immature, offensive, sexist, self-righteous, irresponsible, emotionally wrought, lacking in decency, lacking in empathy, lacking eloquence, accused of throwing a "wave of tears", throwing a hissy fit, being a hypocrite, a drama queen, and I've been told to "grow up"....for the most part by a couple of mods......for taking offence at someone laughing at a disabled child's incontinence.

That other forum sure sounds classy.

Cripes. Doesn't sound like a very nice place tbh.
I've never understood the point to flaming.
QuoteI find it mistifying that in this age of information, some people still deny the scientific history of our existence.

You can see this thread in all its dubious glory here:

http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2033&start=0

My username is Devogue.

There is an important merge at the beginning.

The OP is above, but I started another thread at this point to highlight my feelings about it:

http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=2033&start=0#p85586

The two threads were then merged several posts later on page 1:

http://rationalia.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... t=0#p85660

All of the name-calling in my previous post here is contained within this thread.

I am sure the mods here will understand that I am not spamming, especially becasue I will have fuck all to do with that forum after I have my final say over that thread in the next day or so.

I...I kind of feel odd for having a different opinion on this. I don't see any reason to be offended.

If the OP of that post is known for trying to shock people with what they say, then I wouldn't really pay attention to him. Sure, he might sound immature and horrible for saying those things but at the end of the day, he probably doesn't really mean have the crap that he says and is just doing it for the attention or "The Lols". I myself have disabled loved ones and I'm not offended by that, in fact I'm a bit guilty of actually giggling when I first read it. It would only be a different kettle of fish if it was actually at my own family member and not just some random person. I know I sound weird for not instantly feeling sorry for the poor girl and wanting to hurt the guy, but I just think that it could have been worse. Then again, I’m a very hard person to offend so it could just be me ._.;;;

I'd love to see the thread but the links say we have to sign in to see them, unfortunately.

Update: Problem solved. in 4 posts the thread turned into a topic of wearing women's clothing. (Don't ask)

Ugh. I hate stuff like this. Maybe it's because I deal with disabilities every day of my life (my sister is autistic and I'm active with NAMI, having a mental disorder myself) but making fun of people with disabilities really strikes a nerve with me. My friends know not to do it around me if they're going to. I just can't stand it. I've gotten in arguments with people multiple times on things like this. Most often it's autism. There's an autistic man that goes to the local bookstore all the time. He's really nice and incredibly smart, but he talks and walks differently. His disability is very obvious. People laugh at him all the time and I don't hesitate to tell them that he has more intelligence than they'll ever hope to have.

I agree. Why would this person even post this if they felt truly bad about laughing? *sigh* this kind of shit happens all the time, unfortunately.

That's my avatar on that forum.

It's just an avatar - I change them frequently.

I don't see it as mature or immature -just an avatar.
